Technovanza is VJTI’s annual techno-management festival with the motto of ‘Taking Technology to the Society’.
Technovanza has been a grand three day festival event in the month of February along with a number of social initiatives and outreach programmes since 2001. Technovanza’12 presenting the theme- Curiosity to Creation, attracted a tremendous footfall of 23000, with a participation of 15000 from all over the country including students, corporates and many curious minds!
To augment this thriving event, Technovanza’13 to be held on 6^th, 7^th and 8^th January 2013, with the theme ‘Changing Dimensions’, awaits many distinguished events, competitions, exhibitions, workshops, lectures and seminars.
Through exhibitions like Blind Navigation-an obstacle detection system for the blind, Fire Fighting Bot-a bot that can detect fire and help fire-fighters, Pothole Filling Bot, Railway Revamp-a project that can eliminate deaths due to level-crossing and make journey in Mumbai locals smoother and faster, FITA- measures that can help North-East India cope with the inundating floods and many more, Technovanza’13 promises to live up to its motto!
Acknowledging the three years of the fruitful journey of ‘Pratigya’, a social initiative to generate curiosity in young minds and mould them into technologically responsible citizens, we bring along ‘Mission Mumbai’. Mission Mumbai is an opportunity for the common man to present innovative and feasible solutions to the problems of Mumbai.
Technovanza’13 is also hosting ‘Viwanda’-a three day conference on Manufacturing Competence in India, wherein the participants get an opportunity to listen to stalwarts and posit their own views.

MALHAR LOCAL

Contrary to popular belief, coming up with a theme for a college festival is no mean feat. It has to be something that the core committee of the festival (comprising some twenty-five people) agrees on, something that the staff and board of directors do not find offensive, something that will strike a chord with the huge student population who form the target audience, and something that does not ruffle any (well, okay, too many. It’s impossible to please everyone) important socio-political feathers. It was thus after much discussion, argument, deliberation and reviewing that the Organising Committee of Malhar decided on the theme ‘Malhar Local’.

The reasons behind this were manifold. While most festivals this year are focusing on the impending doom of the Apocalypse, Malhar chose to settle on a theme that celebrated who we are and what we have (infectious diseases of the monsoon not included). And who would we be without Mumbai humari jaan? From the crazy sights to the varied smells to the assorted sounds, the city has enough to offer everyone.

We thus invite you to join us on a train journey reminiscent of Mumbai. If you are from the city, you’ll give a gasp of recognition at every turn, and if you aren’t, you’ll discover the passion, revelry and animation the metropolitan has to offer. Satisfy the wanderlust of your inner Marco Polo or Ibn-e-Batuta without travelling even half the amount.

We know that people travel from all over the city, and indeed the country, to come to Malhar. It is at this terminus that we welcome all the diversity that we can get, to make a mini-Mumbai in the campus of St. Xavier’s College.

With scores of events for singers, dancers, writers, artists, and even the random stand-up comedian, there’s something for each participant. In addition, there’s the Conclave which is hosting exciting

keynotes, forums, and events for those who prefer intellectual to physical exercise. There are also theme-related events, such as ‘Make It Your Own’, which is a theme interpretation event hosted by the Fine Arts department, and ‘Ticket to Bollywood’, where participants must incorporate a mode of public transport into their jhatkas and matkas.

Across the globe it is acknowledged that we Indians make brilliant managers and entrepreneurs capable
of running the biggest corporations in the toughest conditions. It’s not just businessmen and our IITs
that are flexing their muscles, but the BSE index has soared: multi-crore salaries have become common
knowledge: real estate prices are going through the roof. The Indian telecom market is the fastest
growing in the world and our G.D.P expands at 10 percent plus.

At the same time India has a face that is less beautiful. And we can’t afford to turn a blind eye to the
grim reality that lies beneath the glitter and gloss of glory and greatness. There is an India that is
routinely devastated by floods and drought, terrorism and communal violence. Another big source of
worry is the collapse of government. Corruption is at a high and faith in the ability of our politicians
to run an efficient, honest and just administration is at a low. Instead of interfering in business the
government should channelize its time, money and effort towards ensuring efficient education, health-
care ad infrastructure. Sadly this is not happening. Our state run schools and hospitals are in shabbles
and infrastructure is collapsing. Vast chunks of our population do not have access to the most basic
needs –civic amenities and decent education.

Luckily for us, India is ticking inspite of the political drawbacks. Public opinion is at a high. We have a
powerful instrument in the form of R.T.I.. India has produced greats like Amartya Sen, Indra Noogi and
Zubin Mehta. We also have brought home the cricket World cup this last year. But deep down we know
that we haven’t tapped even a fraction of our population.

I dream of an India whose faith in success is far greater that its fear of failure. An India that no longer
boycotts foreign goods, but buys out the companies that make them. An India where politicians are
educated, disciplined and put country before self.  An India that gives freedom and opportunity to the
common man and ensures justice and fullness of life to every man and woman. An India that can look up
to the sky and say
“ITS TIME TO FLY”.
